Fleas are basically
small insects, which are capable of giving
humans as well as pets’ big troubles
with a little stab of proboscis and there
are about 2400 species of fleas worldwide.
Out of all the most common type of flea is
the cat flea which is also known as Ctenocephalides
felis and is one of the most widespread fleas
in the world. The primary host of cat’s
flea is the domestic cat and is also the primary
flea infesting among dogs.
For reproduction, cat fleas require fresh
blood and they lay eggs at the rate of one
egg per hour. The cat flea mainly produces
depending on the external environmental factors
like humidity and temperature. The most common
problem that occurs due to cat fleas is the
flea bite which is dermatitis flea allergy
and the severity of which depends upon the
sensitivity of the host. Flea bite basically
occurs on the ankles and legs with typical
human reaction of a small, red, hard, slightly
raised itching spot.
They are also known for carrying various diseases
like Pappataci fever virus, Carrions disease
and several parasites responsible for Leishmaniasis,
widely known as malaria.
Cat fleas often transmit infection with a
capability of carrying plague and typhus which
also serve as intermediate host to the dog
tapeworm. Dog tapeworm is an intestinal parasite
that is passed on to the pest if the flea
is carrying the cyst of tapeworm that is ingested.
There are certain ways in order to get rid
of the cat fleas that include:
1) Vacuum the yard and house by using canister
vacuum cleaner and empty the canister immediately
into the trash bag.
2) Spray your carpets and furniture with a
spray that has ability to kill all the life-cycle
of fleas.
3) Always wash the beddings of cats after
every 2 or 3 days in bleach and hot water.
4) Wash down all the hard surfaces where the
cats sleep on which may include tabletop,
bookshelves and desks.
5) Bathe the cat while using flea shampoos
that helps in removing the adult fleas.
The process can take at least three months
to completely eradicate the fleas in your
house and break the life-cycle. These things
are very important for you if want to prevent
yourself as well as your pet from hazardous
effect of flea bites. So, look out for the
suitable means to stop the growth of fleas
in your home.
