Fleas are Holometabolous
tiny, wingless and blood sucking external
parasites that enjoy their place on animal
and birds skin nearby. People having pets
are more prone to flea bites. Acute flea infestation
can results even in death and severe anemia
in animals. The main job of flea is to find
fresh blood as this helps in reproducing them.
Fleas attack not only animals but humans too
can be fleas feast.
As fleas are very small in size you may not
even be able to see them on your pet’s
body. Therefore, it requires loads of patience
for curing flea infestation as they are tiny
and also your pets’ life is involved
in this. The life span of fleas is of only
21 days, so it is advisable to take the action
at a very early stage. Various products are
available in the market to cure flea infestation
which kills fleas at different stages.
There are varieties of fleas that are present
in the atmosphere but the most common flea
is ctenocephalides commonly called as cat
flea and is found on cats and dogs, and surprisingly
these bites humans too. Human flea is known
as pullex irritans where as the rat fleas
are known as xeonpsylla. Other type of flea
is water fleas which are found in water nutrients
which do not affect human as the others fleas
do.
Fleas can be sometimes highly dangerous as
they transmit lot of diseases. Usually flea
lives on animals generally dogs but can attach
themselves to humans too. There are some dangerous
diseases that can be transmitted to us by
fleas like tularemia which is a highly infectious
and dangerous disease caused by Francisella
tularemia having side effect like irregular
fever and swelling of lymph node. Another
disease caused by flea bite is typhus which
results in eruption of red rashes, severe
headache and delirium. Bubonic plague is also
one of the most dangerous disease caused bye
flea bite and can be transmitted from person
to person, its side effects are vomiting,
diarrhea, chills.
To get rid of fleas some precautions should
be taken like vacuuming your home weekly,
keeping an eye on the cracks, corners, basements
and crevices of the house. Fleas are often
carried on your pets, so it is very necessary
to keep them and their environment clean and
