Everything about a Sand Flea
Sand flea is among
the most hazardous species of fleas. It is
a parasitic insect that attaches itself to
the scale and flesh of other creatures found
in water, and then it devours the creature
that it is attached with. The most common
under water creatures that are the main targets
of sand flea include sword fish, small fish,
sun fish, star fish, flying fish and even
whale.
Sand flea can differ in size; it can be as
small as a grain of sand or can be 3-4 four
times bigger. The attack of this type of flea
is quite localized, as it can severely affect
one part of the creature, while other parts
of the creature can remain totally unscathed.
Initially, the flea feeds off the outer layer
of the slime of the creature, and then it
slowly eats away the upper layer of the creature’s
skin.
The presence of this parasitic insect on a
creature’s body can be judged by appearance
of a non-glossy whiteness on the creature’s
skin. This flea mostly makes its entrance
by attacking on the skin membrane area near
anus, eyes and dorsal fins. Once it enters
into the skin of a creature, it sucks and
eats everything, from skin to blood to sweet
glands, and thus it can prove to be deadly
for the creature.
When magnified, a sand flea resembles a mosquito,
with a shorter stinger like a horse fly. It
has a dark body, translucent wings with brown
and grey splotches and brown legs. It can
be found in large groups, flying around in
circles around the arms and the head. The
larva of this flea devours small aquatic animals,
and you are very likely to run into it when
you are strolling at a beach. This flea lives
in sand and can attack everything that is
within the ten inches of ground. Due to this,
you can also find a bites cluster around your
ankles, if you had a day out for sea shell
hunting, especially during summers. Its sting
causes lesions and welts that can last for
hours, causing with itching and pain.
You can get rid of fleas of this type by using
an every day insect repellant. Some of the
best home remedies for fleas are that if you
have caught sand flea bites, you can use some
creams and ointments that work best in regard
to sand flea bites or you should wear sandals.
